The new regulations will establish height and area limitations, restricting drone use near airports and heavily populated committees. The GCAA will also aid in the development of market regulations for drone imports and distribution, as well as licensing criteria for individual, commercial, and governmental drone use. The new rules will set specific guidelines for three distinct classes of drones: low-capacity, weighing less than 25 kilograms; mid-capacity drones from 25 to 150 kilograms; and advanced-capacity drones exceeding 150 kilograms.
According to GCAA Director-General H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the ongoing development of drone regulations represents the GCAA’s dedication to aviation innovation. By continuing to draft regulations for new aviation technologies such as drones, the GCAA can promote their use throughout the sector while ensuring the safety of aviation operations.
